the ferry

1. the ferry

A far cry from the more modern boats that dock in Miami, this particular ferryboat has certainly seen better days. The paint is chipping and faded, and the second level railing looks like it's more of a hazard than a safety precaution. The Captain keeps to the captain's nest on the third level, and prefers to be heard, not seen. He makes announcements through a speaker that's more static than voice.

The ferry will take you to Miami, Florida, and it takes about an hour and a half to get there.
The operating hours are as follows:

DEPARTING FROM DESTINY: 6 AM, 12 PM, 6 PM
DEPARTING FROM MIAMI: 9 AM, 3 PM, 9 PM

It picks up new arrivals from Miami at 6 pm on Mondays, arriving on the island at 7:30 PM.

A sign has been erected over the dock to the ferry that reads "Welcome to Destiny". The Island Welcoming Committee has also put up helpful sign posts directing new islanders toward the inn in town.

the boathouse

2. the boathouse

Much like the ferry itself, the boathouse that rests on the shore has seen much, much better days. It's home to Captain Clifford Sharon, who operates the island ferry and who does not seem to do much else, or at the very least prefers to keep to himself. The wood on the exterior is rotting, and it looks like a home that's either been well-loved or not loved in a very, very long time. At 11 PM every night, an oil lamp flickers on in the window. It's one of the only homes on the island that does not have electricity.

3. the business district

Almost immediately after coming off of the shore, to the east, is a gathering of buildings. Unlike the gathering of buildings to the west, these buildings have clearly been built with operation in mind. It's fairly easy to see that this spattering of buildings was once as a business district. Inside of these buildings, small, golden wisps float around. Could these wisps be the reason why none of these buildings appear to be in disarray? The wisps appear to work collectively, if silently, and will operate any store that does not otherwise have a shopkeep to run it. However, when the right person decides that they'd like to take over a shop, the wisps will leave them in peace and allow them to take over.

4. housing cluster

Nondescript homes to claim that are not in town. Give us your descriptions and we'll add to it here as 4a, 4b, and 4c.

5. housing cluster

Nondescript homes to claim that are not in town. Give us your descriptions and we'll add to it here as 5a and 5b.

6. goosetown

Coming off of the southern shore to the east are a cluster of buildings that is surrounded by a moderately sized wall— a wall that the average person might find tough to scale on their own, but one that is not impossible to scale if you're fit and flexible. Behind the walls is the island's first residential district, where most Tales will find their Tale Name written on a plaque on a building that is meant just for them.

7. housing cluster

Nondescript homes to claim that are not in town.

8. the old farm

Once an abandoned farmland, the islanders worked together to restore it so it can thrive again. The farm spans several acres and the fence has been repaired to keep the roaming animals out. The adjoining farmhouse is also large, meaning it'd be easy for more than one tale to work together.

Agatha Nylund lives here.

9. the old ranch

Teamwork, gumption, and island magic have restored this ranch. Sheep and horses live here.

Benji Margolis runs this.

10. peter pan's treehouse

In the middle of a lake, across a treacherous broken rope bridge leading upward, is a massive treehouse with a faded sign that reads: “NEVERLAND”. There’s one huge house connected to smaller tree homes via old rope bridges.

A magical waterfall with no discernable source spills into the surrounding lake. Something (or somethings?) lurks beneath the surface.

Peter Pan lives here.

11. the troll's toll

There are no trolls and there are no tolls (anymore) but this spot offers scenic views only a short hike away from town. The bridge isn’t so high up that it’d be dangerous to hop off into the river, either, for those who want a small thrill but don’t want to take the trek up to the cliffs.

12. the ruins

This used to be… something! It’s hard to tell what was once here, but it looks more destroyed than abandoned. There are no real sources of stone in this area, which means that this was definitely a man-made something, but what it was remains to be seen.

13. the dragon's claws

Named for their claw-like appearance, the dragon’s claws jut from the sea and serve as a danger to boats trying to pass by the southeast side of the island.

14. the deadwoods

Dead trees and dried brush span this corner of the island. Craters mark the land. Nothing really grows here anymore.
The trees have begun to crystalize. There's a strange golden glow coming from inside. Also, there's now a Dave & Buster's knockoff called "David and Buster".

15. destiny's child

A much smaller island to the north. Swarms of geese will attack anyone to prevent them from getting too close, making it currently inaccessible.
Fondly referred to as "Destiny's Child" after the island naming vote.

16. the cliffs

A big ol’ cliff that makes for a good but somewhat challenging hike. The top is perfect for cliff diving. There’s a pod of friendly dolphins that will swim you back to safety.

17. the windmill

An old and broken windmill that could possibly be mistaken for a giant by an aspiring knight. Maybe that’s how it broke in the first place? Either way, it looks like it could be repaired.

18. the bramble cave

This cave was surrounded by thick brambles, but has sense been cleared. Aggressive vampiric mushies reside within the depths of the cave.

19.the wishing well

The wishing well outside runs so deep that you can’t hear things hit the bottom. Also, it's alive and a person with thoughts and feelings. Hm.

20. campsite

A campsite with old tents that are still in great shape. The campfire is always burning and never gets any bigger or smaller.

21. sunken ship

This guy could’ve used a lighthouse on this end of the island. Maybe there’s something to be salvaged?

22. west beach

A nice beach with smooth sand that’s pleasant to walk on.

23. beach hut

A hut on the beach, fallen into disrepair. With some DIY-er gumption, this could turn into something nice.

24. sea cave

Inaccessible from above thanks to the sharp rocky overhang (and a few rather unfriendly birds), the only way to explore this cave appears to be following the tide as it slowly moves in… but why would you want to? It's creepy as hell. And things on the tide that wash in don't really seem to wash out.

25. the lighthouse

The lighthouse is no longer in operation but glowing wisps gather around the beacon at nightfall, giving it the illusion of being lit.

26. housing cluster

Nondescript homes to claim that are not in town. Give us your descriptions and we'll add to it here as 26a, 26b, and 26c.

27. pond house

There’s an abandoned house a little ways out of town, nestled between two ponds. Not quite a lakehouse, but it is a nice spot. Let us know if you’d like to claim this house and we’ll add whatever description you want here.

28. baba yaga's hut

Deep in the forest, far away from town, is a hut that stands on chicken legs. It used to belong to Baba Yaga.
The Well has claimed this.

29. octoberville

The newest town that emerged from the island during an earthquake. Islanders can fast travel back and forth to here and Goosetown (6.) through the fireplace in the inn. Traveling through it feels like swimming in warm BBQ sauce.

30. sports field

A multi-purpose field the new islanders cleared out for sports. Next to this field is a disc golf course.

31. toby town

Toby built her house here. Or, like, the island got tired of waiting for her to do it the proper way and built it for her.

32. the wizard's tower

There's an old abandoned tower surrounded by colorful bushes and giant mushrooms. When Robin Hood went to explore the area, they found that the tower was locked. It wasn't until The Scarecrow, King Arthur, and Robin Hood went back and made a wish for it allow everyone in that the tower unlocked and became accessible to everyone.

The inside of the tower is worn and dusty. It's clear that no one has been in (or out) in a very long time. Now that the magic protecting the tower has been removed, the windows can open, though they retain their gelatin-like consistency under duress.

The inside of the tower is observably and undeniably much, much bigger than the outside would suggest. In fact, some aspects of the tower seem positively endless. After some exploration through various doors, it would appear that this tower was once used for a catch-all school of some sort. There are cubbies, and many of the rooms have desks and office supplies. Some rooms are completely bare, save for scorch, claw, and other physical markings on the walls. At the very top of the tower is a remarkable observatory.

33. moon gate meadow

A meadow of moon gate portals connecting to other moon gate portals scattered around the island. Looking through them, you can see where they lead to on the other side.
